Michi Prestige X430 & Q430
Michi is Rotel's luxury sub-brand, positioned from the outset as the more ambitious and more overtly audiophile branch of the company's catalogue. Its components have typically stood out for their carefully judged industrial design, high power output, refined internal architecture and a strong emphasis on build quality, so the arrival of the new Prestige Series feels like a logical next step in the brand's development. With this new range, Michi appears to be opening the door to a broader group of listeners. Two components join the portfolio at launch - the X430 integrated amplifier and the Q430 CD player. Both are presented as products that bring together the engineering discipline, visual sophistication and key technologies associated with more expensive Michi designs, but at a lower entry point. That sends a fairly clear message about where the brand wants to go next - preserving its high-end identity while creating a more realistic way in for listeners who may previously have admired the Michi catalogue from a distance rather than from a buying position.
At the centre of the new line is the X430 integrated amplifier, a Class AB design developed to work confidently with demanding loudspeakers. According to Michi, it delivers 210 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 340 watts into 4 ohms, figures intended to provide ample control and dynamic headroom across a wide range of music and speaker loads. The amplifier uses high-current output stages within a very low-noise architecture, with a custom in-house toroidal transformer forming the core of the power supply. That transformer is paired with carefully optimised power routing and signal paths intended to reduce distortion and interference, helping the amplifier maintain a clean and stable presentation. The X430 also goes beyond the traditional analogue integrated format by including an ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M DAC, HDMI ARC, Bluetooth with aptX HD and AAC, moving magnet phono input, balanced XLR and RCA analogue connections, USB audio input, dual subwoofer outputs and a customisable colour display.
The second component in the range is the Q430 CD player, aimed at listeners who still regard the compact disc as a fully valid high-quality music source. Here Michi uses a tray-loading mechanism designed to reduce the effects of mechanical vibration during playback, together with multi-stage regulated power supplies intended to isolate sensitive signal paths from electrical noise. The player is built around a fully balanced architecture using the 8-channel ESS Sabre ES9028PRO DAC. According to the manufacturer, four DAC channels are assigned to each stereo channel, a configuration intended to lower noise and improve clarity, spatial definition and dynamic control. Analogue outputs are available on both RCA and balanced XLR, while a coaxial digital output is also included.
The two components have been conceived as a matched pair in both aesthetic and practical terms. Michi places particular emphasis on the industrial yet elegant character of the enclosures, combining anodised aluminium, black glass and a more compact chassis format than some of the brand's more expensive models. In that sense, the Prestige Series is clearly intended for informed music lovers who want an entry point into the Michi ecosystem without starting at the very top of the catalogue. International pricing has been set at £4,499/$4,999/€4,999 for the X430 integrated amplifier and £3,599/$3,999/€3,999 for the Q430 CD player. The X430 is scheduled to arrive first, with wider availability from spring 2026, while the Q430 follows later in the global rollout. Info and photos by Rotel.
