Bowers & Wilkins Px8 S2

Bowers & Wilkins has unveiled the Px8 S2, its new flagship wireless headphone, representing the brand's most advanced design and engineering effort to date. Introduced on 24 September 2025, the Px8 S2 replaces the previous Px8 as the company's top model in the over-ear category, combining luxurious materials, refined ergonomics and significant acoustic upgrades. Drawing on decades of loudspeaker and studio monitoring expertise, Bowers & Wilkins continues its pursuit of what it calls the "True Sound" of the artist's intent. The Px8 S2 builds on this philosophy with newly developed 40 mm Carbon Cone drive units and a discrete internal amplifier system designed to reduce distortion, increase resolution and produce a more natural, detailed soundstage. Each driver sits within a redesigned acoustic chassis that includes a new suspension, magnet and voice coil arrangement, angled precisely toward the ear to improve imaging and spatial consistency across the listening field.

The result, according to Bowers & Wilkins engineers, is a step forward in transparency and dynamics compared with the previous generation. The Carbon Cone diaphragms retain their characteristic stiffness-to-weight ratio, but the new motor system allows for tighter control at higher volumes and greater sensitivity at lower levels. The internal amplification stage, now discrete rather than integrated, provides improved power handling and headroom, allowing the Px8 S2 to maintain clarity and composure across a wide range of material.

The design of the Px8 S2 has also been refined for greater comfort and practicality. The overall profile is slimmer than that of the outgoing Px8, with lighter mechanical arms and a compact new carry case that fits more easily into travel bags. Luxurious Nappa leather covers the headband and earcups, while the aluminium yokes feature exposed cable detailing - a subtle design cue that underlines the model's craftsmanship without adding unnecessary weight. Available in two finishes, Onyx Black and Warm Stone, the Px8 S2 reflects Bowers & Wilkins' ongoing effort to combine engineering precision with understated style.

Durability and serviceability have also been addressed. Both the ear cushions and the headband are replaceable by authorised service engineers, extending the product's lifespan. Internally, improved damping materials and a reinforced driver mount further reduce vibration transmission, while the closed-back architecture ensures consistent bass extension and isolation.

Like its predecessors, the Px8 S2 includes adaptive active noise cancellation and ambient pass-through functions, managed through the Bowers & Wilkins Music App. The app also allows direct access to streaming services, firmware updates and sound-mode selection. Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity with aptX Adaptive ensures stable, high-bandwidth transmission compatible with modern smartphones, tablets and computers. Battery life is rated at up to 30 hours of playback, with quick charging providing seven hours of use from a 15-minute top-up via USB-C.

The Px8 S2 continues the company's legacy of precision audio engineering, presenting a product that merges acoustic sophistication with tactile design quality. The new model joins the existing Px7 S3 and Pi7 S2 in Bowers & Wilkins' premium headphone lineup, reaffirming its position among the most respected manufacturers of personal audio systems. The Bowers & Wilkins Px8 S2 are already available in Onyx Black and Warm Stone finishes, priced at €749. Info and photos by Bowers & Wilkins.
