Snowsky Echo
FiiO has introduced the Echo, also known as the Snowsky Echo, a compact high-resolution portable music player designed as a deliberately simple alternative to smartphones for offline listening. The device reflects a broader return to dedicated music players focused on distraction-free playback, combining styling inspired by classic cassette Walkman-style devices with a modern dual-DAC audio architecture. It is aimed at listeners who want access to hi-res audio on the move without relying on streaming apps or multifunction mobile platforms.
The Echo belongs to FiiO's Snowsky line, a series in which the company experiments with lightweight, affordable and easy-to-operate digital audio players. Unlike the brand's more advanced Android-based DAPs, the Echo is designed strictly as an offline player. Music is stored on microSD cards rather than streamed, allowing FiiO to reduce size, power consumption and cost while maintaining support for high-resolution formats.
At the heart of the player is a dual-mono DAC configuration based on two Cirrus Logic CS43131 chips. The Echo supports PCM up to 24-bit/192 kHz as well as DSD256, with a specified signal-to-noise ratio of 131 dB and total harmonic distortion below 0.0004%. According to the manufacturer, this translates into a clean background and stable instrument separation despite the device's compact format. Two headphone outputs are provided on the right side of the chassis: a standard 3.5 mm single-ended socket and a 4.4 mm balanced connection. In balanced mode, maximum output power reaches 250 mW into 32 ohms, which allows the Echo to drive not only in-ear monitors but also a wide range of portable over-ear headphones. The balanced stage is specified as compatible with loads up to 300 ohms.
Physically, the Echo is one of the smallest hi-res players in FiiO's catalogue. The aluminium chassis measures 80 x 54.5 x 14.5 mm and weighs 55 grams. The front panel features a 1.99-inch IPS colour display with a resolution of 170 × 320 pixels. Internal storage amounts to 8 GB, complemented by support for microSD cards up to 256 GB, positioning the device clearly as a dedicated offline library player. A distinctive element of the design is its cassette-inspired visual language, visible both in the enclosure and in the playback interface, which simulates rotating tape reels during operation. This detail reinforces the concept of a focused, single-purpose music player rather than a multifunction portable device.
Power is provided by a built-in 1100 mAh battery rated for up to approximately 15 hours of playback. The Echo supports common file formats including FLAC, WAV, APE, MP3 and DSD, and also offers Bluetooth connectivity via the SBC codec for wireless use with headphones or speakers. The absence of streaming features and advanced Bluetooth codecs reflects the intentionally streamlined design approach. The Snowsky Echo is currently available in several colour finishes, including black, light blue, green and orange, with international pricing expected to be around €79/$79/£69 depending on region.
