Sendy Audio Egret

Sendy Audio has introduced Egret, a new open-back planar magnetic headphone that pairs the company's latest nano-diaphragm technology with its familiar handcrafted wooden construction. Developed from the ground up with a focus on accuracy, refinement and long-term comfort, Egret is presented as the next step in Sendy's approach to natural, high-resolution sound, combining a large-format planar driver with modern fabrication techniques and a visually distinctive solid wood housing.

At the centre of Egret is a custom planar magnetic driver measuring 98 by 84 mm, described as Sendy's most ambitious unit to date. Its nano-scale composite diaphragm is less than 800 nanometres thick, a construction that is intended to deliver very fast transient response, high precision and realistic dynamics. Using the company's Electron Beam Evaporation Deposition process, ultra-fine aluminium traces are deposited directly onto the diaphragm at an atomic level. According to the manufacturer, this method increases resolution, lowers distortion and contributes to an open, spacious soundstage that can support analytical listening and studio work as well as relaxed home use.

The visual and tactile aspects of the design continue this mix of technology and craftsmanship. Egret's housings are made from natural solid wood that is shaped and finished by hand, so each pair shows its own individual grain and colour. The open-back architecture is chosen to give a transparent, airy presentation, while an ergonomically contoured headband and soft leather earpads are specified to keep the headphone comfortable during longer sessions. The overall tuning follows what the brand describes as a classic Sendy signature, with a full-bodied but balanced character that combines deep bass extension, clear and transparent mids and a refined, controlled treble response.

Egret is supplied with a detachable balanced cable built around a triple composite conductor structure. The cable combines strands of Furukawa oxygen-free copper with silver-plated copper and enamelled gold-plated copper, a mix intended to improve conductivity and definition. A graphene-reinforced PVC outer jacket is used to enhance flexibility and durability in daily handling. The main connection is a 2.5 mm balanced plug, and the package includes 4.4 mm balanced and 3.5 mm single-ended adapters so that the headphone can be paired with a wide range of portable players, desktop amplifiers and other sources without the need for additional aftermarket leads.

Technical specifications position Egret as a full size planar design aimed at both enthusiasts and critical listeners. The driver is a planar magnetic type with a 98 by 84 mm diaphragm, operating over a stated frequency range from 8 Hz up to 40 kHz. Nominal impedance is 38 ohms and the sensitivity is quoted at 103 dB plus or minus 3 dB, which indicates that while a dedicated headphone amplifier is likely to be beneficial, the model should not be excessively difficult to drive. The supplied cable is 1.8 metres long and uses the aforementioned triple composite construction, and the headphone weighs approximately 420 grams. The finish is based on handcrafted natural wood with an open-back layout that exposes parts of the acoustic structure.

Sendy Audio is a headphone manufacturer known for combining planar magnetic driver technology with natural materials and a strong emphasis on hand-finished design. The company's products typically focus on a blend of modern engineering and traditional craftsmanship, aiming to deliver a natural, engaging sound alongside distinctive aesthetics and robust build quality. Egret is offered at a suggested retail price of £799, $799 or €879 and is available through Amazon and selected retailers. Info and photos by Sendy Audio.
