Exposure Electronics has introduced the 5510 Pre-Amplifier, a new flagship model designed as the control center of a high-end separates system. In a market increasingly dominated by integrated amplifiers, streaming amplifiers and compact all-in-one components, the dedicated preamplifier remains a very specific proposition. It is aimed at listeners who want to separate signal management from power delivery and build a system in which each part has a clearly defined role. With the 5510, Exposure is returning to that classic hi-fi logic, presenting a component whose task is not to amplify loudspeakers or attract attention with extra functions, but to handle the incoming signal with accuracy, low noise and long-term flexibility before it reaches the power amplifier.

Topping has built much of its reputation on DACs and headphone amplifiers that combine ambitious engineering with unusually strong measured performance. The DX9 Discrete takes that formula into a more premium and more distinctive direction. It is a fully balanced DAC, preamplifier and headphone amplifier in one compact chassis, but its main point of interest is not the number of functions it combines. Vincent has introduced the SA-32 AE, a limited-production anniversary version of its hybrid stereo preamplifier created to mark 30 years of the company's Powerline series. Restricted to just 200 units worldwide, the new model builds on the long-running architecture that began with the SA-31 in 1996 and continued through later revisions culminating in the SA-32 released in 2017. The anniversary edition preserves the familiar hybrid tube-and-solid-state concept while expanding connectivity and revising key sections of the internal circuitry.

Avid HiFi has introduced the Velsonic, a new reference-level phono preamplifier positioned as the flagship of the company's analog electronics lineup and its first completely new phono stage platform since 2012. Developed and manufactured at Avid's Cambridgeshire facility, the Velsonic replaces both the Pulsare II and Pellere models while carrying forward circuit concepts derived from the company's Reference Pre-Amplifier, signaling a broader refresh of its upper-tier analog architecture. Rather than pursuing a hybrid or digitally assisted topology, the Velsonic follows a strictly analog design philosophy built around a fully dual-mono signal path from input to output. Separate channel layouts are intended to maximize channel separation and reduce crosstalk, while the absence of digital control circuitry reflects Avid's long-standing preference for preserving signal purity in low-level phono applications. According to the manufacturer, particular attention has been paid to minimizing noise throughout the gain structure, an area especially critical in high-resolution MC cartridge systems.

This was a problem because they were so good that finding something that could even come close proved to be very hard. Bryston is one of the companies that use a very logical naming scheme for their products. Thus, amplifier symbols usually contain the letter "B", DACs start with "BDA", network players - "BDP", home theater processors - "SP" and preamplifiers - "BP". They are supplemented with numbers, which may indicate their output power (the B135² integrated amplifier delivers 135W per channel into 8 ohms) or inform us which generation of a given model we are dealing with (the BHA-1 is the first headphone amplifier from the Canadian factory, and the BDP-3 already had two predecessors - BDP-1 and BDP-2). Devices that cannot be assigned to any of the existing categories are scarce. So when Bryston decided to break the current pattern and release a preamplifier that should have been called the BP-18³ (because it is the successor to the BP-17³) but was given the BR-20 symbol, it was clear that this was no accident. The reason for this sudden change turned out to be, unfortunately, very sad. The Canadians wanted to honor their colleague and long-time company president, Brian Russel, who died in his sleep of a heart attack last year. At the time, Bryston's team was putting the finishing touches on the device, which was to be named BP-18³. Members of the design team and executives knew that this model could be a real revelation to many audiophiles - even those using very elaborate, expensive stereo systems. Thus, at the end of 2020, Bryston revealed the new two-channel preamplifier - BR-20.
