Vincent SA-32 AE
Vincent has introduced the SA-32 AE, a limited-production anniversary version of its hybrid stereo preamplifier created to mark 30 years of the company's Powerline series. Restricted to just 200 units worldwide, the new model builds on the long-running architecture that began with the SA-31 in 1996 and continued through later revisions culminating in the SA-32 released in 2017. The anniversary edition preserves the familiar hybrid tube-and-solid-state concept while expanding connectivity and revising key sections of the internal circuitry.
One of the most visible changes is the larger enclosure, which accommodates an expanded digital input stage including HDMI ARC alongside optical and coaxial inputs and Bluetooth connectivity. This addition allows the preamplifier to function as a central interface between a traditional stereo system and a modern television without requiring external converters. In practical terms, the SA-32 AE moves beyond the role of a conventional analog control center and becomes a more versatile hub for mixed-source listening systems.
The tube complement has also been reworked compared with earlier versions of the design. Instead of the four 6N16 valves used previously, the anniversary edition employs two 12AU7 tubes at the input stage and a pair of ECC88 tubes in the tone-control section, where they operate as phase splitters. The 12AU7 is widely used in preamplifier applications for its low noise characteristics and smooth midrange presentation, while the ECC88, electrically equivalent to the 6DJ8, is known for fast transient response and stable performance in gain and splitting circuits. This revised topology reflects Vincent's continued preference for hybrid signal paths combining tube voltage gain with transistor buffering for improved drive capability and consistency.
Further changes appear in the power supply section, which has been redesigned around an R-core transformer chosen for its low stray magnetic radiation and efficient energy transfer. Additional filtering is provided by Wima and Nichicon capacitors intended to reduce ripple voltage and stabilize operating conditions across the tube stages. According to the manufacturer, these revisions contribute to a signal-to-noise ratio exceeding 90 dB together with lower overall distortion and improved stability under dynamic load conditions.
Connectivity includes five stereo RCA inputs and one balanced XLR input on the analog side, with preamplifier outputs available via both RCA and XLR connectors as well as a dedicated record output. Two 3.5 mm trigger outputs support system integration with compatible power amplifiers. The preamplifier is specified with a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz within ±0.5 dB, input sensitivity of 500 mV, output voltage of 2 V, and total harmonic distortion below 0.1 percent. Power consumption is rated at 40 watts, and the chassis measures 430 x 95 x 360 mm with a weight of 7.23 kg.
Vincent Audio is a German hi-fi manufacturer known for hybrid amplifier designs that combine tube voltage stages with solid-state output circuitry. Since the introduction of its early Powerline components in the 1990s, the company has focused on delivering traditional analog sound character alongside modern functionality, building a catalog that includes integrated amplifiers, preamplifiers, power amplifiers, and digital source components intended for both stereo and mixed-format listening systems. Vincent SA-32 AE will be offered in black and silver finishes and carries a recommended retail price of approximately €2,000.
