The Return of Jamo

Jamo, one of the most recognizable names in European loudspeaker design, is preparing a return to the international audio market under new ownership and with a renewed development structure that brings engineering activity back to Denmark. The relaunch marks the beginning of a new phase for the Danish brand, combining continuity with its Scandinavian heritage and a broader strategy aimed at both traditional hi-fi systems and modern lifestyle audio solutions. The first products created under the new structure are scheduled to be presented at the Vienna High End Show, offering the first public glimpse of Jamo's direction after its restructuring.

The brand is now owned by Cinemaster and Rayleigh Lab, two companies active in audio distribution, research and manufacturing. Cinemaster CEO Xiaodong Yang, who previously worked closely with Jamo, returns to the project with direct knowledge of the company's earlier design philosophy and market positioning. As he explains, "Jamo is a legendary brand for good reason - great sound and clever design never get old and we have set up development to create speakers which meet all needs of the modern listener from entry level speakers to high-end systems. Production will be handled in both Denmark and China and we can't wait to show you more very soon." According to the new ownership structure, the goal is not simply to revive a historical name but to rebuild a complete loudspeaker portfolio aligned with contemporary expectations while preserving the brand's original identity.

The new development program places this legacy at the center of the company's strategy, while introducing updated materials, production methods and acoustic solutions intended to support a broader product range covering entry-level, midrange and high-end segments. A key part of the relaunch involves a newly assembled international design and engineering team drawn from both the hi-fi sector and industrial design studios. Among those contributing to the new generation of products are Kim Michel of KimMichel Design, Simon Matthews of Studio ISO, whose previous collaborations include Focal, Bowers & Wilkins and Naim Audio, and Studio ISO founder Jamie Cobb. In Denmark, additional product concepts have been developed by HarritSorensen, the Copenhagen-based design agency founded by Thomas Harrit and Nicolai Sørensen, ensuring that Danish design principles remain central to the renewed product lineup.

The company's updated development philosophy places particular emphasis on Nordic materials, environmental awareness and visual integration into modern interiors. According to the new team, this approach reflects a continuation of Scandinavian design traditions that prioritize simplicity, functionality and durability alongside acoustic performance. At the same time, the future product range is expected to extend beyond conventional stereo loudspeakers to include connected audio systems and lifestyle-oriented solutions intended for contemporary domestic environments. The first loudspeakers created under the renewed structure are expected to be shown publicly during the Vienna High End Show, marking the formal start of Jamo's return to active product development and international distribution under its new ownership.

Founded in Denmark in 1968, Jamo became one of Europe's best-known loudspeaker manufacturers by combining Scandinavian design with accessible high-performance audio engineering. Over the decades the company developed a wide portfolio ranging from compact home speakers to large multichannel systems, establishing a strong presence in both hi-fi and home cinema markets worldwide. Today the brand is entering a new phase under the ownership of Cinemaster and Rayleigh Lab, with renewed development activity and an expanded international design team. Info and photos by Jamo.
