Raidho X2.8

The X2.8 follows shortly after the X1.6 Reference, a compact standmount designed to deliver a larger sound than its dimensions might suggest. The new model moves the same engineering conversation into a more ambitious cabinet. Instead of trying to make a small speaker behave like a bigger one, Raidho is now giving the X Series a floorstander with the scale to match larger rooms and more demanding systems. Hand-built in Denmark, the X2.8 is positioned as a substantial step up within the series rather than a simple range filler.

The loudspeaker uses a three-way configuration, although the currently available press material focuses mainly on the bass section and tweeter. Low frequencies are handled by two 8-inch aluminum/ceramic bass drivers developed and manufactured in-house by Raidho. The company says the drivers combine stiffness with self-damping, which is exactly what matters in this type of design. A large floorstanding speaker does not only need to move more air. It also has to keep bass notes controlled, timed properly and integrated with the midrange, otherwise extension becomes weight without definition.

Raidho specifies bass extension down to 32 Hz. In practical terms, that gives the X2.8 the low-frequency reach expected from a serious floorstanding loudspeaker rather than a compact speaker supported by room gain. It should make the model more suitable for listeners who want the weight of double bass, large piano, drums or orchestral scale without immediately moving into Raidho's more expensive ranges. The interesting point is not only the number itself, but the fact that the X2.8 appears to bring genuine low-end authority into the X Series while still relying on Raidho's familiar fast driver philosophy.

The top end is handled by Raidho's ribbon tweeter, another in-house design and one of the technologies most closely associated with the brand. According to Raidho, its moving mass is around 50 times lower than that of a conventional dome tweeter. That figure is meaningful because a lighter moving element can respond extremely quickly to small changes in the signal. In listening terms, the goal is not simply more treble energy, but air, speed, low-level detail and the kind of openness that can make a loudspeaker disappear more convincingly in the room.

The press material does not provide technical detail about the midrange driver, although it is visible in the supplied photos and clearly forms part of the three-way system. That omission is worth noting, because in a loudspeaker of this type the midrange is usually the area where coherence, tonal density and driver integration are won or lost. Raidho is expected to publish further details on the X2.8 in July 2026, so more information about the complete driver configuration and cabinet design should follow before the speaker reaches dealers.

The crossover is one of the better-documented parts of the construction. Raidho says it is assembled by hand using Mundorf components, Nordost cable and point-to-point wiring. This kind of information is more than decorative audiophile language. In a multi-driver loudspeaker, the crossover determines not only where the drivers hand over to one another, but also how stable and coherent the speaker remains as volume rises and musical material becomes more complex. High-quality parts and careful assembly do not guarantee a particular sonic result, but they are consistent with the level of execution expected from a €27,000 loudspeaker.

Morten Kim Nielsen, CEO of Raidho Acoustics, describes the X2.8 as more than a bigger loudspeaker in the X Series. "The new X2.8 has turned out way beyond our expectations. It has the physical foundation of a serious full-range loudspeaker, but it also carries the speed, transparency and emotional connection that make Raidho special. To us, this is not just a bigger loudspeaker. It is a statement loudspeaker in the X series."

That positioning explains the role of the new model. The X2.8 gives the X Series a more complete floorstanding loudspeaker for systems and rooms where the X1.6 Reference may not provide enough scale or bass authority. It also creates a clearer upgrade path for listeners who are attracted to Raidho's more compact models but want a speaker capable of filling a larger space with greater ease. In that sense, the X2.8 appears to be aimed at customers who want much of the brand's established sound and construction approach, but not necessarily the price or room requirements of the company's upper ranges.

The available press information is still limited. Raidho has not yet published full cabinet dimensions, detailed cabinet construction data or complete specifications for the midrange section. What has been confirmed is that the X2.8 is hand-built in Denmark, uses proprietary in-house drivers, includes dual 8-inch aluminum/ceramic bass units, Raidho's ribbon tweeter, a hand-built crossover with Mundorf components and Nordost cable, and will be offered in three finishes. The Raidho X2.8 will be available from September 2026. Pricing is set at €27,000 per pair for black high gloss and white high gloss finishes, and €30,000 per pair for walnut veneer.
