Lyngdorf LCR-2

Lyngdorf is expanding its loudspeaker range with the LCR-2, an on-wall design created as a natural partner for the recently introduced FR-2 floorstanding speaker. The new model is intended primarily as an elegant center channel for home cinema systems, but its name already suggests that this is not its only possible role. LCR stands for Left, Center, Right, which means the LCR-2 can be used as a left, center or right channel, as well as a surround speaker in a more elaborate multichannel system. It is aimed at users who want to build a home cinema system or a multimedia setup in a living room, but do not necessarily want to add another large floorstander or a conventional standmount speaker. Here, the starting point is wall placement, a shallow cabinet, visual integration with modern interiors and sonic consistency with the FR-2.

Lyngdorf Audio has long built its position around the combination of Danish design, technical consistency and solutions intended to make high-quality sound easier to integrate into real living spaces. In the case of the LCR-2, this is particularly clear, because this is not a speaker pretending to be a conventional freestanding design. It was developed from the outset for on-wall use. The manufacturer emphasizes that the cabinet has been tuned specifically for this placement, with the midrange-woofers positioned as close as possible to the wall behind the speaker. In practice, this means trying to use the acoustic conditions typical of a living room or media room rather than designing a loudspeaker that only begins to fight the wall once installed.

The most important task of the LCR-2 is to provide consistent sound in a multichannel system. It uses the same midrange-woofers as the FR-2 floorstanding speakers, which is intended to ensure smooth tonal integration with the main channels. This matters a great deal in home cinema, where differences between the front speakers and the center channel can be very easy to hear, especially with dialogue, effects moving across the soundstage and film music. The LCR-2 can be used as a single center speaker below a TV, but three units can also be placed under a screen as a complete front LCR array, or combined with Lyngdorf BW woofers, which take over the lowest frequencies and the LFE channel.

The speaker is a two-way closed-box design. Its internally braced MDF cabinet, adapted for wall mounting, houses one 28-mm textile soft-dome tweeter and two 180-mm midrange-woofers with aluminum cones, 35-mm voice coils, vented magnets and vented die-cast aluminum baskets. Lyngdorf notes that the drivers have been placed as close to each other as possible to achieve favorable sound dispersion in the room and more seamless integration with the other channels in the system. The claimed frequency response is 80 Hz - 20 kHz at -3 dB, the crossover point is 1.7 kHz, nominal impedance is 4 ohms, with a minimum of 3.7 ohms, and sensitivity is rated at 92 dB. Maximum SPL is specified as 117 dB at 1 m, peak, while power handling is 250 W according to the IEC standard.

The LCR-2 measures 66.5 x 32 x 11 cm and weighs 10.8 kg, so despite its on-wall form it is not a symbolic accessory for a television, but a full-scale loudspeaker designed for use in a more serious system. The 11-cm depth is the key figure here, as it allows for a much more discreet installation than a conventional center speaker placed on an AV cabinet. A wall bracket is included, and connection is made through gold-plated binding posts. This format is particularly relevant in modern interiors, where a home cinema system increasingly needs to be not only acoustically effective, but also visually organized and as unobtrusive as possible.

A great deal of attention has also been paid to design and the ability to match the speaker to the room. The LCR-2 has a front baffle that flows into the top of the cabinet, smoothly rounded edges and satin-matte finishes. Six cabinet and front combinations will be available - white/white, black/black, mocca/mocca, white/black, white/mocca and black/mocca. Lyngdorf also offers optional interchangeable fabric covers using material from the Danish company Gabriel, available in Midnight Grey and Light Grey. This means the LCR-2 can be matched not only to the FR-2, but also to the interior itself, from a discreet installation to a more contrasting visual setup.

The new speaker is made in Denmark, in line with Lyngdorf Audio's production standards. The company also points out that it recently opened its own cabinet production facility and paint shop near its headquarters in Skive. For a product whose form and finish are as important as its electroacoustic parameters, this is especially relevant. The LCR-2 is not just another component in a multichannel system, but a product closely connected with the idea of integrating audio equipment into living spaces. It is intended to look like a carefully designed interior element while retaining the qualities of a full-size loudspeaker - dynamic range, dialogue clarity, tonal consistency and the ability to work with subwoofers in more ambitious installations. The Lyngdorf LCR-2 is expected to be available around late May and early June 2026. Official pricing has not yet been confirmed, but it can be estimated at around €2799/£2899/$3499.
