Breggz Zohn-1

The resurgence of premium personal audio continues to gather pace. Amsterdam-based Breggz has announced that its Zohn-1 wireless in-ear hearable has become the first product of its kind to receive IMAX Enhanced certification, creating a new device category within the programme and bringing the cinema-grade IMAX sound experience directly to in-ear listeners for the first time. With fans increasingly consuming films, series and concerts on personal devices, the move marks a notable shift in how high-fidelity sound can be delivered beyond the living room and into genuinely mobile listening.

Breggz positions the Zohn-1 as a high-end, creator-authentic hearable, engineered to reproduce audio that reflects the intent of the artists and filmmakers behind it. According to founder Xander de Buisonjé, the project was born from frustration with the compromised sound quality of typical in-ear devices - creators devote immense time to refining their work, yet the nuances often disappear when played back on mass-market earphones. The company argues that this is where the Zohn-1 diverges – not only by meeting stringent IMAX Enhanced requirements but by applying four core audio principles that redefine what wireless in-ear headphones can deliver. These principles include a perfect anatomical fit, advanced balanced acoustic drivers, a sophisticated microprocessing platform and a heightened level of personalisation, with the acoustic chain adapting to the individual listener.

For IMAX, the collaboration adds a missing piece to its ecosystem. Until now, IMAX Enhanced certification has applied to televisions, laptops, tablets, mobile devices, AV receivers, loudspeakers and soundbars. Extending this catalogue to a premium in-ear hearable brings the brand's trademark clarity, power and dynamic impact to an entirely new listening format. The partnership is presented as a natural alignment, with both companies emphasising fidelity, creative intent and a more immersive connection to content. As IMAX expands across both theatrical and home entertainment, introducing a mobile, personalised device enhances the way fans can experience its sound when viewing films or streaming IMAX Enhanced titles on the go.

The Zohn-1 itself is crafted in the Netherlands using a blend of high-end acoustic engineering and meticulous manual assembly. Each pair relies on hand-placed balanced armatures and individually calibrated acoustics, techniques borrowed from studio and stage monitoring. Breggz worked with EarMicro and Bragi to integrate advanced signal processing and adaptive technology, allowing the earphones to profile each user's hearing and tailor playback accordingly. The result, according to the company, is pristine, unconstrained sound that remains faithful to the original performance regardless of environment, whether used for films, music or long-form entertainment.

For CES visitors, Breggz and IMAX are showcasing the partnership and offering demonstrations at the Aria Resort & Casino's Penthouse Sky Suites. As personal audio continues to evolve, the companies present the Zohn-1 as a signpost for what the next generation of hearables can become - mobile, personalised and capable of reproducing creator-grade fidelity without wires or compromise. The Zohn-1 is currently listed at around €895/$1,050. Info and pictures by Breggz.
