Austrian Audio The Arranger
Austrian Audio is expanding its presence in the high-end headphone market with The Arranger, an open-back reference model aimed at listeners who want a more immersive, speaker-like experience from a portable and serviceable design. Positioned as a gateway into true audiophile listening for both demanding home users and audio professionals, the new model combines the brand's latest driver technology with a robust but refined construction crafted in Europe.
At the heart of The Arranger sits a 44 mm high excursion driver with a diamond-like carbon reinforced diaphragm and Austrian Audio's proprietary ring magnet system. This combination is engineered to increase stiffness and control without adding unnecessary mass, allowing the diaphragm to move in a tightly controlled way while maintaining high accuracy. According to the manufacturer, the headphone achieves a frequency response from 5 Hz to 30 kHz with total harmonic distortion kept below 0.1 percent at 1 kHz, a sensitivity of 110 dB SPL per volt and a nominal impedance of 25 ohms. The result is intended to be clean, distortion-free bass that extends to the lowest registers, together with a rich, well controlled low end and a detailed, natural presentation across the rest of the spectrum.
The Arranger uses an open-back architecture designed to create a wide, natural soundstage where instruments appear placed in front of the listener instead of inside the head. Austrian Audio describes the listening experience as spacious and precise, with clear localisation of individual sources and a presentation that should appeal to both critical mixing work and relaxed home listening. The open construction also contributes to a more airy character, which the company positions as an alternative to the more enclosed feeling of many closed-back designs aimed at mobile use.
Build quality and comfort are central to the concept. The Arranger features a metal frame with full metal hinges and a foldable mechanism, allowing the headphones to be packed away easily without sacrificing robustness. Soft suede leatherette earpads are combined with a padded headband, both of which are replaceable to extend the product's service life. With dimensions of 200 by 175 by 85 mm and a weight of 320 g without cable, the model is intended for long sessions without excessive fatigue. Austrian Audio emphasises that the headphone is fully serviceable and manufactured from premium materials in Europe, positioning it as a long term investment rather than a disposable accessory.
Connectivity has been designed with both home and professional environments in mind. The Arranger uses a 4-pin symmetrical socket on the earcup, which works with the supplied detachable TRS cable terminated in a 3.5 mm plug, accompanied by a 3.5 to 6.3 mm adapter for use with full size headphone outputs. For users with balanced sources, Austrian Audio offers optional cables ending in Pentaconn or 5-pin XLR connectors, providing a straightforward route into balanced drive from compatible amplifiers or studio interfaces. Combined with the moderate 25 ohm impedance and high sensitivity, this means the headphone can be partnered with everything from portable players to dedicated desktop amplifiers, while still being easy to transport thanks to its folding structure. The Arranger is available at a recommended retail price of €999. Info and pictures by Austrian Audio.
