Thuono Audio TH400, TH350 & TH300
Thuono Audio arose and grew out of a passion for high-fidelity sound with the intention of creating products that guarantee the highest quality analog reproduction. After more than five years of study and prototype development, three different turntable models are now finally available - the fruit of detailed research both from the point of view of mechanical characteristics as well as the tonal qualities of the materials. All are carried out in order to ensure exceptional performance.
TH400, TH350, and TH300 are the three Thuono Audio turntable models, named according to the diameter of each platter. The TH400 is in fact the most impressive of the series and has a platter diameter of 400 mm - extreme dimensions which guarantee very high inertial torque translating into out-of-this-world dynamics.
The turntables feature the same belt drive system, which reduces any type of disturbance coming from the motor and which remedies the problem of loss of dynamics thanks to the insertion of a flywheel which allows the intensification of the drive energy to the platter giving great sound authority. All three models also feature magnetic suspensions designed to dampen any type of vibration as much as possible. These support the upper frame of the turntable in its entirety, allowing the platter and arm to work together. Finally, the TH400, TH350, and TH300 have been made with carefully selected materials chosen to enhance the timbre balance of the sound and their mechanical properties.
A standout feature of all three is an engine block in black Marquinia marble and a chassis that combines the same marble with aluminum, brass, bronze, and other damping materials. The main difference between the three models lies in their sizes, which differ due to their individual structural properties, thus leading to varied sound dynamics levels. There are variations in the plate supports, which in the TH300 has an inverted pivot, and also in the combinations of materials used.
In addition to the turntables, Thuono Audio presents the Magic Wood cartridge for the very first time. This is an MC-type cartridge with a revolutionary design created in collaboration with Sublima Audio Research. It is a head with a shell made of wood from a 200-year-old Italian olive tree, subsequently treated with luthier lacquers on a patented project. This cartridge ensures an extremely musical sound and enhances the timbres of any musical instrument, especially strings.
The new Thuono Audio product list also includes tonearms, specifically the TH12 and TH13. With lengths of 12 and 13 inches respectively, they have proven robustness while retaining great freedom of movement thanks to the ball-bearing articulation system. These bearings have been examined one by one and selected based on the elevated degree of smoothness of each individual bearing. Also available are a phono cable and power cable which will improve the performance of any audio system thanks to the distinctive geometry of their construction and the great care taken to reduce resonances.
The final item is a universal clamp which elevates the performance of any turntable thanks to the research done into the materials used and to the patented disc placed underneath which enables the reduction of the electric charges which can form on vinyl records. Finally, a listening room has been set up at the Thuono Audio headquarters in the province of Vicenza in Italy, available on appointment, providing the possibility to listen to and experience the extraordinary performance of these stellar new turntables.
The flagship TH400 turntable is priced at €23,500, the TH350 costs €16,100, and the TH300 is €9,500. All prices refer to the version without a tonearm. Here Thuono Audio gives us two choices - the TH13 for €3,000 and the slightly cheaper TH12, which costs €2,800. Info and photos by Thuono Audio.
