Meze Audio has been climbing steadily toward the very top of the headphone market for years, but until now the hierarchy was relatively easy to understand. Empyrean established the company's planar magnetic credentials, Elite pushed the concept further, and Empyrean II refined one of Meze's most recognizable designs. Arta changes that structure completely. Unveiled at High End Vienna 2026 after several years of development with Rinaro Isodynamics, it becomes the company's new reference headphone and moves well above the rest of the range - not only in price, but also in terms of driver architecture, amplification requirements and sheer engineering ambition. Meze describes it as a project created without the usual compromises, while Rinaro developed an entirely new planar magnetic transducer specifically for this model. The original announcement positioned Arta at $6,000 and €6,000, making it substantially more expensive than Elite and Empyrean II.

But what if you lived in a small city in northern Romania, close to the borders with Hungary and Ukraine, far from any major industrial center, with an education in the arts, no connections in the technology industry, and a very, very limited budget? That sounds like a recipe for failure. And yet it was under precisely those conditions that one of the most fascinating phenomena in the modern audio market was born. This is a story about how passion, determination, and a certain degree of stubbornness can make even the most improbable plan a reality. And about how, sometimes, despite everything and everyone standing in the way, it simply works.

Jamo has unveiled Hyg, a new series of wireless speakers inspired by the Scandinavian idea of "hygge" - warmth, comfort, ease and a sense of connection. After announcing its new Concert Legacy and Concert Element loudspeakers, the brand is also entering a more lifestyle-oriented part of the market, but without abandoning the design values that have long been associated with Scandinavian audio. The Hyg series launches with three models - Hyg Flex, Hyg Flow and Hyg Reflect - each built around a different listening situation, from room-filling sound at home to portable outdoor use and quieter bedside listening.

Monitor Audio has introduced the Radius Series 4G, a new generation of one of its best-known compact loudspeaker ranges. The idea behind the series is straightforward but still highly relevant - to offer proper hi-fi performance from speakers small enough to work in modern interiors, desktop systems, multi-room installations and discreet home cinema setups. The new line has been redesigned around Monitor Audio's Transparent Design Philosophy, combining the company's familiar driver technologies with slimmer cabinets, matching accessories and a more flexible approach to placement. In other words, Radius 4G is aimed not only at listeners looking for compact stereo speakers, but also at those who want a complete, scalable system that can move from near-field listening to wall-mounted surround sound without looking like conventional hi-fi has simply been squeezed into the room.

Ruark Audio has introduced two new products that fit neatly into the current move toward hi-fi systems combining several once-separate worlds - physical media, streaming, furniture-like design and a more integrated approach to home audio. The British company, which celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2026, has presented the R710 Music Console and the Talisman-R floorstanding speakers. Together, they form a complete stereo system in which the listener gets amplification, streaming, CD playback, turntable support and a pair of passive speakers designed to match the electronics both technically and visually.

REL Acoustics introduced a new line of active subwoofers designed for hi-fi and home theater systems in which a conventional floor-standing box can be awkward both acoustically and visually. The new range consists of two models, the PL-1 and PL-2, both of which can be mounted directly on the wall, much like a decorative panel or framed picture. The relaunch marks the beginning of a new phase for the Danish brand, combining continuity with its Scandinavian heritage and a broader strategy aimed at both traditional hi-fi systems and modern lifestyle audio solutions. The first products created under the new structure are scheduled to be presented at the Vienna High End Show, offering the first public glimpse of Jamo's direction after its restructuring.

If someone were to say that the headquarters of one of the most interesting and fastest-growing manufacturers of tube amplifiers and hi-fi components was based not in Munich, Glasgow, or Tokyo, but in a tiny village near Białystok, Poland, many audiophiles would probably raise an eyebrow. And yet it is precisely here, among forests, lakes, and open countryside, that a company emerged, first with small, simple, affordable tube amplifiers, and now delivers beautifully engineered, thoughtfully designed, thoroughly modern components to music lovers in more than thirty countries worldwide.

GIK Acoustics is expanding its low-frequency treatment lineup with three new deep Bass Trap Panels aimed at rooms where excess bass energy remains one of the hardest problems to control. The new additions - the Classic Bass Trap Panel '60Hz', Amplitude Bass Trap Panel '60Hz', and FlexRange Bass Trap Panel '50Hz' - are designed to deliver stronger absorption lower in the frequency range than the company's existing standard-depth models, addressing standing waves, bass build-up, and the kind of low-end smear that can undermine clarity in studios, listening rooms, home theaters, and other acoustically demanding spaces.

Hi-end audio equipment is not only bought but also built by enthusiasts. Often those who used to be in a similar situation and developed their hobbies to such an extent that at some point they decided to build something of their own - better than what's offered in stores. The history of many companies involves a very important input from other people as well. Sometimes it is a friend who decided to help his colleague in developing a small, garage manufacture, sometimes an old lady who bequeathed a nice guy running a music store a huge sum of money, and sometimes a good accountant who can get one of the largest loudspeaker manufacturers out of debt. James Tanner is one of those characters. Perhaps a blind fate that brought James to the right place at the right time. It is known, however, that his contribution to the development of one of the most respected companies making both amateur and professional audio electronics was considerable, to say the least. Today he is Bryston's vice president, but who was he then? A friend of the family? An old lady? Accountant? Well, no. He was a firefighter.
