Audeze Maxwell 2
Audeze is expanding its presence in the gaming world with the Maxwell 2, a new planar magnetic headset designed to set a higher benchmark for audio on consoles and PCs. The newcomer takes over from the original Maxwell, a model that earned praise from gamers, reviewers and audio professionals alike for bringing serious hi-fi sound into the world of competitive and immersive gaming. In Maxwell 2 every major element has been revisited and refined to deliver higher fidelity, improved comfort during long sessions and more robust, flexible connectivity across platforms. The idea is to create a headset that can satisfy demanding esports players who rely on absolute precision just as well as casual gamers who value immersion and comfort above all else.
At the heart of the new sound signature lies Audeze's SLAM technology, appearing for the first time in a gaming headset. Introduced in 2024 and deployed in flagship models such as the electrostatic CRBN2, SLAM combines Audeze's 90 mm planar drivers with Fluxor magnets and Fazor waveguides. This combination is designed to deliver an exceptionally wide frequency response from 10 Hz to 50 kHz and to render fine detail with greater clarity and control. In practical terms it means that subtle spatial cues and background elements, from the soft footsteps of a flanking opponent to distant reloads and environmental ambience, can be reproduced alongside powerful explosions and intense action without losing definition or coherence.
Comfort during extended play has been a core focus in the redesign. Maxwell 2 features a wide, flexible suspension headband that distributes weight evenly across the head, while integrated ventilation openings allow the skin to breathe more easily and help reduce heat build-up during long sessions. The ear pads have been reworked to offer more room around the ears and to improve passive isolation from external noise, helping players concentrate on the game even in a busy environment. The cushions attach magnetically, which makes them easy to remove for cleaning or replacement after prolonged use or accidental damage.
Clear team communication is critical in competitive titles, so Audeze has equipped Maxwell 2 with an updated microphone system. The detachable hypercardioid boom mic works in tandem with a new generation of Filter AI noise reduction, which now offers double the processing bandwidth. This enhancement allows the system to suppress unwanted background noise more effectively and keep the player's voice front and centre. According to the manufacturer, this results in cleaner, more intelligible comms with teammates or viewers, even when playing in noisy surroundings. A convenient volume and mute control scheme on the headset itself allows players to adjust or silence their microphone in an instant without diving into on-screen menus.
Connectivity has also been designed with modern multi-platform gaming in mind. Maxwell 2 ships with a low-latency wireless USB dongle that ensures a stable, responsive link to consoles and PCs, helping to keep audio and on-screen action in sync. For mobile devices and everyday use there is Bluetooth 5.3 with support for LE Audio and LDAC, enabling high quality wireless playback from compatible smartphones, tablets and laptops. This means the headset can move seamlessly from the gaming setup to daily listening without requiring a separate pair of headphones.
Power comes from an internal lithium-polymer battery that can deliver up to 80 hours of continuous wireless operation, depending on usage and settings. Such battery life allows for many extended gaming sessions between charges, whether the headset is used for competitive play, story-driven titles or mixed gaming and media consumption. When charging is required, fast-charge support helps to get the headset ready again quickly, so players can return to the game with minimal interruption.
The launch of Maxwell 2 coincides with the debut of an all-new Audeze app that offers an intuitive interface and extensive options for tailoring the sound. Users can choose from factory-tuned presets or design their own EQ profiles, adapting the headset to different genres, games or personal preferences. Importantly, the app is not limited to the latest model. It is also compatible with the first generation Maxwell and is available across Windows, macOS, iOS and Android, giving existing and new owners a unified control and customisation platform.
Audeze Maxwell 2 will be offered in two main variants. One is designed for use with Xbox consoles and PC, while the other is tailored for PlayStation systems. Both versions will also work with compatible computers and other devices via the wireless dongle or Bluetooth. According to the manufacturer and early retail listings, indicative pricing is expected to be around $329 for the PlayStation version and $349 for the Xbox version on international markets, with local pricing set by distributors in each region. Availability through authorised retail partners is planned for the first quarter of 2026. Info and photos by Audeze.
