Revival Audio Atalante Grande Réserve

Revival Audio is expanding its Atalante family with a new limited edition flagship, the Atalante Grande Réserve, restricted to 300 pairs worldwide. The name borrows from the vocabulary of fine cognac and champagne and is intended to signal a carefully crafted, rare expression rather than a simple cosmetic variant. The new model develops the benchmark set by the Atalante 7 Évo, yet is aimed at listeners who want genuinely reference level performance in a more refined, well proportioned format. It brings together the design language and acoustic engineering of the Atalante series in a loudspeaker that is meant to feel like a complete, self contained statement rather than just the next step up the range.

Visually, the Atalante Grande Réserve has been conceived as a flagship presence with carefully balanced proportions rather than sheer size. The Smoked Oak finish gives the cabinets a warm, Époque inspired character that blends natural veneer with a discreet sense of luxury. The most distinctive element is the StrataBaffle front baffle, a sculpted, multi layer construction with an outer 25 mm slab of solid oak, a very high density core and a structural backing layer. Chamfered edges increase stiffness and help to manage diffraction, while also reinforcing the visual identity of the Atalante line. The loudspeaker is supplied with dedicated wooden stands designed exclusively for this model. They feature matched chamfered edges and a laser engraved base plate so that the stand becomes a structural and aesthetic extension of the cabinet rather than a separate accessory. On the rear panel a machined aluminium terminal plate carries WBT connectors and an individual serial number for each pair, underlining the collectible nature of this limited edition.

StrataBaffle is the key structural innovation in the Atalante Grande Réserve. The combination of an extra thick 25 mm solid oak outer layer, Ultra Density Fibreboard core and precisely designed internal bracing is intended to lower cabinet resonance and tighten control over driver behaviour. The increased mass and rigidity of the baffle help to keep mechanical energy under control, while the chamfered geometry reduces edge diffraction and smooths dispersion. In practice the aim is to achieve a cabinet that is as acoustically quiet as possible, so that the three way system with its 12 inch woofer can work without adding its own colouration, resulting in higher accuracy, greater clarity and a calmer overall presentation.

High frequencies are handled by the RASC Evo tweeter, engineered to combine extended bandwidth with a natural, non fatiguing rendering of detail. The updated ARID Evo technology is claimed to absorb more than 97 percent of internal resonances in the rear chamber, which reduces distortion and smooths the response. The motor uses a powerful neodymium magnet system to raise sensitivity and dynamic capability, while the specially developed Tetoron soft dome is tuned for a smooth, unforced top end that remains comfortable during long listening sessions. A pure aluminium voice coil, aluminium rear chamber, ventilated back plate and diffuser are all used to keep inductance low, improve cooling and maintain free airflow, which in turn supports an open, transparent treble.

The midrange is entrusted to the RASC Evo midrange driver, which also employs an enhanced ARID+ scheme and a neodymium motor. ARID+ is designed to absorb more than 96 percent of internal resonances, cutting down unwanted reflections and helping to linearise the driver's response, while the strong motor with a high BL factor increases control and efficiency. A dual suspension for the dome keeps the movement linear across the working band, reducing distortion and sharpening clarity and articulation. The aluminium rear chamber incorporates a Tri Zone resonance control system which dissipates excess energy, minimises resonances and assists with heat management. A copper clad aluminium wire voice coil and shorting ring further reduce distortion and improve transient response, and a ventilated back plate with diffuser supports airflow and reduces compression at higher listening levels.

Bass is provided by a reworked 12 inch BSC Grande Réserve woofer based on the Basalt Sandwich Construction technology already used in the Atalante 5, but adapted for deeper, more controlled low frequency performance. The driver features an extended 10 mm linear stroke and a tall High Roll Surround, which increases one way X max by 45 percent to ±12 mm and allows strong, deep bass at low distortion. The basalt composite diaphragm aims to combine high stiffness with low moving mass so the driver can deliver high dynamics without losing grip. The increased 2.25 inch voice coil improves power handling and long term thermal stability, while the strengthened magnet system with a thicker stack and higher grade material raises the BL factor and improves control of cone motion. A four layer high temperature voice coil wound on a black anodised aluminium former improves cooling, and the resonance frequency has been lowered by 5 Hz without sacrificing sensitivity, so extension and precision in the low end can be combined.

The crossover has been built around Supreme grade components and tuned with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship. Mundorf Supreme capacitors and resistors are used throughout the network alongside WBT reference terminals in order to maintain tonal purity and long term reliability. Revival Audio's own parts, overspecified Supreme Air Coils and dedicated capacitors and inductors form a circuit designed to preserve the brand's natural, uncoloured voicing. Internal wiring is entrusted to Van den Hul Skyline, chosen to preserve as much transparency and signal integrity as possible. The filter topology uses an all pass approach in order to improve phase alignment between the drivers, support a coherent, immersive stereo image and precise localisation. Each crossover is individually tuned by hand so that every pair of speakers exhibits the intended balanced, repeatable character.

The cabinet itself has been developed on the basis of extensive simulations and listening tests, with the goal of achieving very low resonance and high structural integrity. Revival Audio notes that the Atalante Grande Réserve is among the most inert enclosures in the brand's history. The cabinet sits on the dedicated oak stands, which are reinforced by a cast support element to provide natural damping and high rigidity. Between cabinet and stand there is a layer of decoupling spikes, and the stand base uses precision spikes and high quality isolation pads so that height and tilt can be adjusted accurately and external vibrations can be effectively controlled. On the rear a pair of AeroVex bass reflex ports, first seen in the Atalante 7 Évo and here configured as a dual rear firing system, manage the airflow. The port profiles were developed using airflow simulations to cut turbulence and noise by more than 90 percent or so, while the dual configuration smooths airflow, extends low frequency bandwidth and tightens bass control, helping the speakers integrate more easily with real world rooms.

Technically, the Revival Audio Atalante Grande Réserve is a three way loudspeaker that combines a 28 mm RASC Evo soft dome tweeter, a 75 mm RASC Evo soft dome midrange and a 12 inch BSC Grande Réserve woofer with a Basalt Sandwich Construction diaphragm. The frequency response is quoted as 26 Hz to 24 kHz at minus 6 dB, with a sensitivity of 89 dB at 2.83 V and one metre and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. The minimum impedance is 3.2 ohms in the region of 110 Hz. Crossover points are set at 400 Hz and 2 kHz. Continuous power handling is specified at 200 W and the recommended amplifier power starts at around 30 to 50 W, which opens the door both for robust solid state amplifiers and suitably capable valve designs. Suggested room size is between 30 and 65 square metres so typical medium and larger living spaces are covered. The cabinets stand 710 mm high without the stands and 1176 mm including the stands. Width is 420 mm and depth 355 mm. A single loudspeaker weighs 35.5 kg without the stand and 46.1 kg with the stand attached, which reflects the mass and solidity of the construction. In terms of pricing, the Revival Audio Atalante Grande Réserve is positioned firmly in the high end segment. It is listed by specialist retailers at around €9890 per pair including the dedicated stands, with global production limited to 300 pairs, which naturally means availability is likely to remain tightly controlled.
