Pro-Ject E1.2

Pro-Ject Audio Systems has introduced the E1.2, a new-generation entry-level audiophile turntable designed to deliver exceptional sound quality in an accessible, ready-to-play package. Handmade in Europe, the E1.2 continues the brand's commitment to high-performance analogue engineering at realistic prices, combining precision craftsmanship with a series of upgrades over the original E1 model. The E1.2 retains Pro-Ject's Plug & Play philosophy, with factory-set tracking force and anti-skating to ensure perfect performance straight out of the box. Every unit is hand-assembled and fine-tuned by experienced technicians, so users can simply connect, drop the needle, and enjoy their records with minimal setup effort.

Among the most significant upgrades is a new 730-gram die-cast aluminium main platter, which replaces the ABS polymer version used in the previous model. Each platter is precision-balanced to achieve even rotation and fitted with a TPE damping ring and a recessed area for the record label, creating an anti-resonant foundation that reduces unwanted vibrations and improves speed stability. The result is a smoother, more accurate playback experience, allowing the stylus to trace the grooves with greater precision and clarity.

Equally important is the newly developed Pick it MM E cartridge. Using a low-mass design with a miniature neodymium magnet generator, it delivers superior tracking accuracy and reduced inertia. The conical diamond stylus provides a warm, natural sound signature with low background noise, while the highly damped ABS body minimises vibration-induced colourations. This combination ensures that the E1.2 delivers a full, engaging sound with excellent tonal balance across the frequency range.

The E1.2's tonearm has also been carefully engineered for both precision and stability. Measuring 8.6 inches in length, the aluminium-tube arm is mounted on a heavy-mass gimbal bearing system that ensures smooth movement and consistent tracking. Its carbon-reinforced headshell reduces vibrations and increases rigidity, while the decoupled TPE counterweight enhances balance and detail retrieval, especially in the low frequencies. With its expertly adjusted geometry and zero-play bearings, the tonearm guarantees refined performance without requiring any user calibration.

A crucial factor in the E1.2's sonic character lies in its solid plinth. CNC-machined from rigid composite fibre, the chassis has no hollow spaces, effectively suppressing internal resonances. Damping feet further isolate the turntable from external vibrations, ensuring that playback remains unaffected by its surroundings. The design is as elegant as it is functional: available in high-gloss black, satin white, or walnut finishes, the plinth reflects Pro-Ject's meticulous attention to both aesthetics and acoustic engineering.

Other key features include a stainless-steel main bearing with a bronze bushing, a glass-fibre reinforced sub-platter, and a fully damped DC motor with electronic 33/45 RPM speed control. The E1.2 is supplied with high-quality OFC copper phono cables featuring gold-plated RCA connectors, a 15 V DC power supply, a dust cover, and a 7-inch single adapter. Weighing 3.6 kg and consuming just 4.5 W of power, the turntable combines efficiency, simplicity and performance in a compact footprint.

Priced at €329, the E1.2 is positioned as an ideal solution for music enthusiasts entering the world of vinyl or those seeking a refined yet affordable analogue experience. With a guaranteed 25-year spare-part availability and Pro-Ject's trademark European build quality, it embodies the company's philosophy of long-term value and sustainability.
