We Are Rewind Freddie
We Are Rewind is a French audio brand focused on reviving cassette culture through modernized portable players and accessories. Its products combine analog nostalgia with contemporary usability, giving listeners a way to enjoy physical media while keeping practical features such as Bluetooth connectivity, rechargeable batteries and modern design refinements. Now We Are Rewind has launched Freddie, a new pair of wireless headphones inspired by the portable audio culture of the 1980s. Also known as EQ-002, the model has been designed to complement the company's WE-001 cassette players, but it can also be used with smartphones, tablets, computers and other Bluetooth sources. The idea is simple - a lightweight retro-style headphone that visually belongs next to a cassette player, but behaves like a modern everyday wireless model.
The design is the most obvious part of the concept. Freddie draws directly from the slim, open portable headphones that were commonly paired with personal cassette players, using a metal grille, a minimal frame and colorful foam cushions rather than the sealed, bulky form of many current wireless headphones. The adjustable stainless steel headband keeps the construction light and simple, while the included interchangeable ear cushions in orange, yellow and black allow users to change the look without turning the product into a fashion gimmick.
That retro appearance is not accidental. We Are Rewind has built its identity around the revival of cassette culture, and Freddie extends that idea beyond the player itself. The headphones are not trying to compete with modern noise-canceling over-ear models or studio monitors. They are designed for people who want the look and feel of analog portable audio, but with the convenience of Bluetooth when needed. In that sense, Freddie is closer to a lifestyle accessory with a clear audio purpose than a conventional hi-fi headphone.
Bluetooth 6.0 is used for wireless listening, and the headphones are compatible with the WE-001 cassette players as well as everyday digital devices. The practical advantage is that the same pair of headphones can be used with a cassette player, a phone, a tablet or a laptop without changing the user's routine. For those who want a fully analog experience, a 2.5-mm to 3.5-mm cable is included, allowing wired listening from compatible sources. This is an important detail because it keeps the product connected to the cassette idea rather than making it a purely wireless retro-styled object.
Freddie uses 36-mm drivers and is tuned for a balanced, warm and dynamic sound. The specified frequency response of 20 Hz - 20 kHz should be understood less as a technical headline and more as confirmation that the headphones are designed for full-range everyday playback rather than narrow-band nostalgic reproduction. We Are Rewind describes the sound as rich, warm and immersive, which fits the target use - mixtapes, playlists, podcasts and casual portable listening rather than forensic studio monitoring.
The headphones are also designed for calls and daily use. A built-in microphone allows users to answer and end calls without reaching for a phone, while integrated controls handle music playback and call functions directly from the headphones. This keeps Freddie practical in a modern context, even if its visual language comes from an earlier era of portable audio.
Comfort is a central part of the appeal. At approximately 66 g, Freddie is extremely light by wireless headphone standards, and that matters for the type of product this is. It is meant to be worn casually, carried around easily and used at home, on the move, at a festival or during a long day without feeling like heavy audio equipment. The soft foam pads and simple headband construction reinforce the old-school portable headphone feel while keeping the fit easy and low-pressure.
Battery life is rated at up to 14 hours, which is a sensible figure for such a compact and lightweight design. Charging is handled via USB-C, with a charging time of around 3 hours. This is not a headphone built around marathon battery claims, but the endurance should be enough for daily portable listening, especially with wired mode available as a fallback when Bluetooth is not needed or the battery runs down. The package includes the EQ-002 Freddie headphones, a 2.5-mm to 3.5-mm audio cable, a USB-C charging cable and a user manual. Freddie is priced at €49. Info and photos by We Are Rewind.
