Meze Audio 99 Classics V2

Ten years after the debut of one of its most recognisable models, Meze Audio announces the return of the 99 Classics in a refined and upgraded form. The headphones that won worldwide acclaim for their natural sound and timeless aesthetics are making a comeback, preserving their signature character while introducing a range of subtle yet meaningful improvements. According to the manufacturer, the new 99 Classics continue the brand's philosophy of combining craftsmanship with modern acoustic engineering. The changes introduced in the second generation are evolutionary in nature, focusing on enhancing comfort and refining the overall sound performance. The headphones feature redesigned earpads, optimised cup volume and sealing, as well as a re-engineered acoustic partition. Meze Audio has also fine-tuned the driver matching process, resulting in a more balanced sound signature with deeper bass, smoother highs and a clear, expressive midrange.

Founded in 2011 in Baia Mare, Romania, by Antonio Meze, Meze Audio has become renowned for designing headphones that unite traditional craftsmanship with contemporary engineering. The original 99 Classics were a cornerstone of the company's success, defining its visual identity and establishing its presence in the premium headphone segment. The new generation preserves the familiar silhouette but has been comprehensively re-engineered inside. The ten carefully developed upgrades include a newly designed, high-quality, dual-twisted cable aimed at reducing interference and ensuring a purer signal path.

The construction of the new 99 Classics remains faithful to the original concept, with each pair featuring unique walnut wood earcups, zinc alloy components and the brand's characteristic self-adjusting headband. The headphones are fully serviceable, reflecting Meze Audio's long-standing commitment to sustainability and product longevity. The packaging has also been redesigned using eco-friendly materials, underlining the company's environmental awareness and attention to detail.

A major addition to the new generation is a compact USB-C DAC/AMP included in the set, allowing the headphones to be used seamlessly with modern portable sources. According to Meze Audio, these upgrades result in improved spatial precision, greater instrument separation and higher overall clarity, while preserving the signature warmth and musicality that made the 99 Classics famous. The second-generation model delivers a smooth, engaging sound that remains rich and natural but is now more cohesive tonally and cleaner in the midrange. The official launch of the Meze Audio 99 Classics Gen. 2 takes place today, with availability scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025. Unlike its predecessor, the new version will be offered exclusively in the Gold finish, with a suggested retail price of €349. Info and photos by Meze Audio.
